MUHOZI Julius joined the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) of Rwanda in 2019 as a financial auditor. He worked in that role for one and a half years, auditing government business enterprises, government parastatals, districts, ministries, and World Bank projects. In June 2021, he joined the performance audit department.

Today, he is a Principal Auditor in the performance audit department. He is actively involved in audit planning, team management, report writing, and designing strategies to achieve needed audit results and deliver them on time.

Julius graduated in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in applied statistics from the University of Rwanda. He is now pursuing a master’s degree in finance from the same university. He is also a Certified Public Accountant. He has attended local, regional, and international trainings in performance auditing organized by CAAF, AFROSAI-E, and the OAG of Rwanda

My goals for the Fellowship

The following are some of what I hope to learn about through my Fellowship:

  • Leadership skills
  • Audit topic selection and effective scoping
  • The importance of gender equality in performance audits
  • Effective report writing
  • Effective team management, including keeping a team motivated
  • Different cultures and diversity

The impact I hope to make as a graduate Fellow

After my Fellowship, I will:

  • Transfer new skills through refresher trainings that are done in our office annually.
  • Ensure that best practices and approaches for conducting performance audits are transferred to my colleagues.
  • Empower the quality assurance department in our office, which is in charge of professional development, by sharing training skills and techniques.
  • Apply knowledge gained from CAAF in my future assignments to enhance audit quality and impact, as well as efficiency in terms of time management.
  • Help the performance audit department to consider gender aspects in their prospective audit topics.
  • Make sure that skills learned from CAAF are transferred not only to the OAG of Rwanda but also to other audit offices in the region by participating in AFROSAI-E trainings and being a regional facilitator.
