In Memory of Jean-Pierre Boisclair

J-P BoisclairIt is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Jean-Pierre Boisclair – the first permanent Executive Director of the Canadian Audit and Accountability Foundation (formerly the Canadian Comprehensive Auditing Foundation).

J-P Boisclair joined the Foundation not long after its creation in 1980. Prior to becoming Executive Director, he worked at the Office of the Auditor General of Canada on executive interchange from the national accounting firm MacGillvray & Co. where he was a partner. As part of his work at OAG Canada, he led an early comprehensive audit of a federal department and assisted the Office of the Auditor General of British Columbia in introducing comprehensive auditing to that province. This experience would serve him well in leading the Foundation in the coming decades.

J-P’s leadership of the Foundation extended over 21 years, until September 2002. From introducing and developing the concept of comprehensive auditing in the 1980s, to leading research on governance and accountability issues into the 1990s, J-P’s influence on the direction of the Foundation has been profound.

J-P passed away on Saturday, May 16. We at the Foundation acknowledge the important contribution he made, not only to this organization, but to audit, oversight and accountability in Canada in general.
