PAC Leaders Across Canada Are Moving the Needle on Effectiveness

CAAF recently hosted the leaders from public accounts committees (PACs) across Canada – an event that is the first of its kind!

Current and past Chairs and Vice-Chairs representing seven provinces and territories as well as former leaders of the Federal Committee held a full day meeting in Regina, Saskatchewan on September 10th to share good practices, learn strategies to improve their effectiveness, and identify emerging challenges and opportunities to support PAC effectiveness.

Among the key issues discussed, participants brought ideas and perspectives on how PAC leaders can foster cross-party collaboration and work together to set the right tone for their committees. They also shared techniques for effectively managing committee meetings.

Identified Emerging Areas of Need

Throughout the day’s discussions, a number of important priority areas were identified that can help support improved oversight in governments and enhance the effectiveness of PACs across Canada.

  • The need for PAC leaders to come together for professional development opportunities.
  • Creating a private social media group so PAC leaders can share information and exchange ideas.
  • Support and resources to help promote the unique role of PACs and how these committees need to operate differently than other legislative committees to be impactful.
