The 2022‑2023 CAAF international Fellows have successfully completed their Fellowship programs. Each of the six Fellows completed a placement with a Canadian audit office, participated in a series of professional development courses, and developed an audit plan that they will lead in their country. They began this work virtually from their countries in November 2022, then came to Canada from February to July 2023 to continue their work in person.

We celebrated the Fellows’ graduation at a ceremony in Ottawa on July 7 with many of the Canadian partners who make the program possible. Each Fellow spoke about his or her audit plan project, and mentors from the Fellows’ Canadian host offices spoke about their experiences working with them. As well, we were pleased to have Myriam Montrat, Director General, Sustainable Economic Growth Partnerships, join us and provide opening remarks on behalf of Global Affairs Canada. She spoke of the importance of performance auditing and told the graduating Fellows, “The work that you do shines light into dark places and increases transparency and accountability, which benefits everyone in your respective countries.”

The Fellowships are part of CAAF’s International Governance, Accountability and Performance Program, which is funded by Global Affairs Canada. Through this program, CAAF and our Canadian partners provide capacity building for the national audit offices and parliamentary oversight committees of four countries: Guyana, Rwanda, Senegal, and Vietnam. CAAF has delivered an international program since 1980. In total, 274 Fellows, from 54 countries, have now graduated.

“The work that you do shines light into dark places and increases transparency and accountability, which benefits everyone in your respective countries.”

The 2022-2023 Fellows have now returned home, where they will carry out their planned audits and share their new knowledge with colleagues. We wish them the best and will be eager to see the impact they make for their audit offices and their countries.

On behalf of CAAF and the new graduates, thank you to the Canadian host offices, the Fellows’ audit offices, and all the individuals who contributed to the Fellows’ learning this year!
