PACs can establish and periodically review measures that articulate impact, results and value-added in the legislative oversight process.

Practices to Consider

Review and assess the impact of the PAC, through regular meetings of the steering committee.
Examine the value-added role of the PAC, including the issuing of substantive recommendations and following up on government implementation of PAC and legislative auditor recommendations.
Identify ways to increase the impact of the PAC, and develop a plan to implement them.
Articulate the PAC’s impact and results in an annual report. The report can contain the PAC’s substantive recommendations and identify any required follow-up by departments on the implementation of recommendations. It can also highlight areas in which PAC recommendations have led to changes by government.

Alberta’s annual report details committee membership, meetings held (date, department/entity audited), changes to meeting format, and professional development activities undertaken.
The BC annual report provides a summary of the Committee's activities, including a review of Auditor General reports, delegations hosted, conferences attended, and records retention and disposal.
